Gihachiro Okuyama was selected for the first time at the Japan Creative Prints Association Exhibition in Showa 3.
In the same year, his skills were bought and he worked on numerous commercial advertisements as an advertising artist for the Japan woolen advertising department.
Later, he also designed posters and whiskey labels for Nikka Whisky.
In Showa 11, he studied under ukiyo-e researcher Kendo Ishii and focused on the revival of traditional techniques.
From Showa 24, he ran his own Japan Printmaking Institute and began to create woodblock prints produced by carvers and rubbers similar to ukiyo-e.
